Why the gear matters

The product is only as good as the application. A measured paint-depth reading prevents burned clear coat. A forced-rotation polisher removes defects a cheap orbital can't. Genuine, registered coatings carry real warranties. This is the difference between a detail that lasts years and one that fails in weeks.

Why we measure paint depth before every correction

Factory clear coat is typically somewhere between 40 and 60 microns, and roughly a third of that is the usable working layer. A single aggressive correction can remove 3 to 5 microns. That arithmetic is why an unmeasured car is a gamble: a vehicle that has already been polished twice by previous owners may have very little left, and nothing about the paint's appearance tells you that.

The gauge takes readings across every panel before a polisher is switched on, and low readings change the plan rather than being ignored. Sometimes that means a lighter one-step where a full correction was quoted, and sometimes it means telling an owner that a panel should not be corrected at all. That conversation is uncomfortable and it is the reason the tool is on the van.

Three polishers, three different jobs

A random-orbital machine oscillates freely and stalls under pressure, which makes it forgiving and safe on edges and complex panels — it is the finishing tool and the right choice on soft, thin paint. A forced-rotation machine cannot stall; it drives the pad through the defect and removes material predictably, which is what hard German clear coat needs and what a random orbital will never achieve on it.

Using the wrong one is the most common reason a correction disappoints. A random orbital on hard clear coat produces hours of work and marginal improvement; a forced-rotation machine used carelessly on soft paint produces holograms or worse. Carrying all three and choosing per panel is more expensive than owning one machine, and it is the difference between a result and an attempt.

Professional chemistry is not just stronger consumer product

The meaningful differences are dilution control, pH specificity and cure requirements. A professional coating is a different chemistry from a consumer spray sealant, not a concentrated version of one — it cross-links onto the clear coat and needs controlled temperature, humidity and a rain-free cure window to do so.

The same applies in the other direction: professional decontamination chemistry is often gentler than what is sold at retail, because it is designed to be dwelt on the surface and rinsed rather than scrubbed. A great deal of the damage we correct was caused by a strong retail product used with good intentions on a surface it was never meant for.

Water quality and the final rinse

Tap water in this region carries enough dissolved mineral content to leave visible spotting when it dries on paint, and those spots are not always just cosmetic — left to bake in the sun, mineral deposits etch into clear coat and become a correction job rather than a wipe.

A deionised final rinse removes the dissolved solids so the water dries clear, which is what lets a car be finished outdoors without chasing it with towels. It matters most on dark paint, in direct sun, and on coated cars where the whole point is not touching the surface more than necessary.

What we deliberately do not carry

No brushes, no rotary buffers in untrained hands, no filler-heavy glazes, and no "one-step" products that hide swirls with oils that wash out in six weeks. Fillers are the quiet problem in this trade: a car can be handed back looking corrected and revert to its original state by the second wash, and the customer usually blames the wash.

We would rather tell you a defect is not coming out than hide it. That is also why every job finishes under inspection lighting with you present — filler-based work does not survive a hard LED and a walk-round, which is precisely the point.
